70,000 Send Email To Users - Always slow and stuck

Hi all gurus of VB.org

i have been wanting to ask this for the longest time. My mass send email to users process is always very slow and it gets stuck at 3000 users, sometimes, 200, sometimes after 20,000 and so on. It has never completely processed all of my users.

It's not the actual sending of the email, i have cron based mail to handle that. it's just the initial processing of the users. Every user takes almost 2 seconds to process.

If i set it to send as test email, it will complete in no time. Why is that?

How do you guys send mass email to your users if you have many?

Is there something i can do? or perhaps my webhost can do?

or if anyone can recommend a practical solution to sending newsletters to your vbulletin forums users, i'd really love to hear it!

Thanks
Tom

you'll have to ask your webhost for the Mail configurations, they may have applied a filter to slow down spam sending...

hi nexialys

thanks for the reply

hmm, is it really a cap or a filter the webhost applied?

because i am experiencing this problem while actually processing the emails to be sent.

Thanks
Tom

me too... 70,000 as well... takes 15 hours to do...

usually, mostly-free webosts will cap your email process to something like 500 emails per hour (like on HostGator)... so you need a dedicated server to change things... negociate with your host!

hi nexialys

i'm already on dedicated. running 2 servers with quad cores each.
the host may have still capped it, i will ask them tomorow.

but what other reasons could there be?

Assuming there is no cap, will the process be fast and complete?

thanks!
Tom

hum, as the sending of emails is related to the cron engine of vB, it needs page hits... if your site is visited often, i don't know whatelse can be the problem.
