Most users ever online was 20 is a bunch of crap...

I have a small site, so I have maybe 5 people log in at the same time, unless someone ticks some one else off, then it becomes like 9 people. However recenly, I had a day when about 11 spammers came in and swooping down and were trying to registers.... ie they were guest (unwanted guest).

So, how can you count only the registered users, and not guests in the "Most users ever online block"? I would like to see actual members that belong to the site, and not a bunch of spammers that are falsely adding to the "Most users ever only" information....

FYI, it's not only spammers. Yahoo sends search spiders by the dozens sometimes. So some were likely bots from Google, Yahoo, etc.

I forgot about those... But to me, they shouldn't be counted either.... It gives a false report of how the site is doing....

Guests are counted as users in all lines of the web. Something like Google analyctics or statcounter doesnt over look some users. The online counter is doing the same thing.

Is there a easy way of counting only the registered users? Not the Bots or guests?

Try one of the "Who was online in the past 24 hours" add-ons by Paul M. I *think* (if I am recalling correctly) that the 'most online' count used there is actual members.

Sorry if this sounds like a negative comment....but why would you want to do that?

If the most users ever on line is a high figure...doesn't that give the impression of an active board, and encourage new members to join?

You can always see the number of actual members that have visited.....right there on the home page of your ACP....unique members today.

Agreed,

you may want to rethink that strategy of showing "actual" users only because showing more guests adds to the overall social appeal of your website.

Being a small board, everyone knows that the figure is wrong, and they think something is wrong with the vbulletin software. Now, if I had a big forum, then yes, let the figures make it look like a HUGE board.

So, I thought that there would be some type of code change that only logs registered users. I'm hoping to still find such a fix.

KW802 - Thanks for the info on Paul W. "Members who have visited today", I was looking for that program to install too.... I know it doesn't fix what I'm asking, but it's still a good one to have... Thanks....
