some general vB questions

hello, i am converting my forum from ipb to vB and it looks like the conversion will be a smooth one

i have a few questions regarding the functionality and modification community

forum hierarchy

i made a thread on vb.com in the impex froum. the impex forum is visible on the main page, but when you click on it the hierarchy at the top implies that it is related to the 3.8 forum:

vBulletin Community Forum > vBulletin 3.8
vBulletin Impex Import System

or an even better example, this youtube bbcode here on this site: link

vBulletin.org Forum / vBulletin Modifications / vBulletin 3.7 Modifications / vBulletin 3.7 Template Modifications / BB Code Enhancements
YouTube BBCode with HQ and HD support (W3C-compliant!)

i go back and click on each level of the above chain and cannot see how the one above connects to the one below. for example, on the forum main page i cannot see the link to "vBulletin Modifications"

----------------------------

regarding the modifications themselves, this site seems to have a ton of info. i dont see much in the way of a checklist to confirm what 3.7 mods/bbcodes are confirms to work on 3.8. Also I have found about 5 or 6 different youtube bbcodes. i have seem that soem modifications have the "supported" icon on them and I figure those are all approved and tested but is there a good place to find a listing of excellent modifications and bbcodes rather than in the individual threads?

I would be especially happy to find a single package that includes 20-30ish good tested bbcode tags.

i apologize for being such a newbie, if there are any great faqs you could point me to i would really appreciate it :)

edit, also what would be the most popular chatbox used in vB 3.8?

bumping from page2 back to page1

i see in "help -> general site map" that the full forum hierarchy is listed, but on the forum main page i just see the first 3 sections (news, community discussions, community central)

why are some of the main sections (mods and skinning) not even visible from the main page?

then even the general site map does not show the different forums

vBulletin Modifications

* vBulletin 3.8 Modifications
o vBulletin 3.8 Add-ons
o vBulletin 3.8 Template Modifications
* vBulletin 3.7 Modifications
o vBulletin 3.7 Add-ons
o vBulletin 3.7 Template Modifications

where is the BB Code Enhancements as a subforum of 3.7 template modifications? I cannot path to it from the forum itself, from the sitemap, or by actually going to the template modifications forum and looking for a link there.

also is there a list of good quality tested mods that work with particular versions rather than just trying out (for instance) each of the 5+ different youtube bbcode tags?

thanks again for any time

There is a modification in the Modifications forum which separates the modifications based on what type of mod they are. The one you're looking at deals with BB code, so it's grouped with other BB code mods. Going up the chain, everything should be fairly self explanatory until you get to the jump from vB Mods to the Forum Home. In order to not clutter the main forum page with ALL the forums, the Mods forum is hidden slightly. This way it can be separated and organized. You can reach the Mods forums at any time by clicking on the tabs at the top of the page (upper right - Home - Forums - Articles - etc.)

"Supported" means that they are supported by the individual developers of the mod itself. It does not mean that they have been checked for functionality/security/etc by anyone. It just means that if you have a question, the developer will try to help you.

At the top of every mod it should list the latest version of vB that the dev has tested it on. If they see that something they made works on 3.8 as well as 3.7, then they can have the same mod listed under both 3.7 and 3.8. There weren't too many changes between 3.7 and 3.8 though, so you'll find a lot of people posting on the threads of 3.7 mods saying that they worked on 3.8 as well.

Search:

*code*
All Mods
Titles Only

Or go to one of the modification forums and pull down the menu in the center (just above the thread listings) to BB Code Enhancements, and enjoy!

Again, organization.
