Bringing your own site down due to Human Error
This thread, Google broken, got me thinking about the times I have brought my own site down due to 'human error'. I can't recall every time I've brought it down, but the last time was about a month ago when I made a change to a script and forgot the semi-colon at the end of the line. :o
So, how about the rest of you - I can't be the only one who accidentally brings my site down. |
each time i hack vBulletin i break something... lately was when i try configuring Lionel's hacks on a non-production site.. i will have to ask Lionel to debug directly on my site because i have like 10 errors per hour.. lol

Great thread Lynne
Oh I would say I used to do this about once a week. Now it's about once a month. :D |
Not the current forum, but i've done it a few times in the past :D
It's just good to know that anything you do is fixable :) |
I used to break things all the time, luclily the past few years my confidence in getting things fixed has served me well, I guess its all to do with a learning Curve. :D

It's been a few years... That was when I was "drunk coding". :p

ROFLMAO ROMS.
hmmm I've added mods that have brought it down, upgraded and a mod broke my board, then had to pick through the dozens to find the culprit. LOL hmmm, neglected security patches, got hacked... what else? All in a days work. haha I actually haven't BROKE anything like the WPOD (white page of death) since my phpbb days. LOL Back then I brought it down all the time. Products and plug ins have spoiled all that fun. haha |
Few times before I've managed to 505 everything by mucking around with .htaccess :D
|
Last server move I forgot to stop mysql before I copyed the db (should've used hot copy but decided to just copy the files instead) - destroyed the post table thought everything was gone (1.5 million posts) and the last back up failed so I was left with a week old back up. My members would've murdered me if I had used that.
Managed to fix the tables in the end but must've lost a couple of stone in sweat doing it. Here's me panicking on vb.com http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291030 |
