Space Issue Preventing New Attachments/causing error

Okay guys, around lunchtime yesterday my site started going a bit slow and I noticed trying to upload attachments gave this error;

http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/8963/59148229dm4.jpg

Now, I thought this was a little strange so I rebooted my server and the issue went - a little while later, it came back so I tried logging into phpmyadmin and I see this error (which prevents me from logging in)

Quote:

Warning: Unknown: write failed: No space left on device (28) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/var/lib/php/session) in Unknown on line 0
I went to this directory and noticed there was lots temp files, so with the advice from another forum I deleted them. The issue seemed to resolve itself and then later on, it just started again so im here now.

Can anyone give me advice? this issue is driving me crazy and I really need to rectify it asap.

Many thanks,

Greg

It looks like the hard drive has run out of space on your server. Please contact your host ASAP.

Hm my hard drive is 250GB - (I've got two of the same size but only use one) didn't think we'd ever fill it

I checked via ssh but I don't really understand any of this, do you?

Also, i've just deleted a few GB's from the server and the problem still remains - should it not of gone, atleast for now?

file size limit, files too big can interupt the connection too...

did you check these details with your webmaster ?!

I've sent a support request in now - awaiting a response but they will most likely just say "it's a dedicated server, deal with it"

This is a nightmare! :(

fdisk shows the disk structure, not remaining space. Run this command instead:
Code:

df -h

Deleted from where? You could be removing files from a partition/drive that is not full, and hence, not the problem.

If you don't not have the knowledge to manage your own server (not saying this is a bad thing), would it have been wise to opt for a fully managed solution?

Thanks for your help :) I do agree with your last opinion but hey, i'm willing to learn! :)

Anyway, I solved the issue - my friend pointed out that my log file was over 10GB in size so all is sorted!

Thanks for your help guys! :D

You might want to have a look at "logrotate".
