Forums not marked as read

I have a problem with forums not being marked read. When someone makes a new post, the forum, thread and post remain marked unread unless I scroll to the bottom and click 'mark all forums read' or following the breadcrumbs backwards.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this.

Before the user stats fix they would mark read if I followed the full path to the post (Open forum, open thread, open post) but now they're not being marked read at all no matter what I do.

Is anyone else using the same versions? Are yours working ok?

P.S.: here is the full discussion we had in another forum to get more details:

I really dont get the problem.. and the forums u mentioned asks me to register.. I am kinda lazy lol..

Basically the forums don't get marked as read if you go directly to the forum's index after reading something.

We can not read the thread you are linking to.

Can you provide the URL to the forum in question and a test login.

<a href="http://gigaworx.biz/showthread.php.htm" target="_blank">http://gigaworx.biz/showthread.php.htm</a>

Here's a copy.

That is not the URL to the forum and a test login.

And that link also doesn't work. If will show apartial page for a short time, then redirects to a page not found.

It's just a saved .html source.

A test user can't be created because they require license details.
I'll quote all the posts here.

What type of thread/forum marking are you using?

If you create a default style and browse the forum, do you still have this problem?

Create a new style with no parent - Styles & Templates > Style Manager > Add New Style > no parent - then browse the site using that totally default vbulletin style - do you still have the same problem?

DR_GIGGULS 01-23-2009 03:37 PM

Lynne, it's not because of the style.
I have another forum with the default style and the latest 3.7 update (fresh install, no mods) and still have the same issue. Plus, it is stand-alone and is not integrated into any other software.

I am quoting the whole thread below:

The installation was fine, although I had a problem with new users not being added to the VB stats which Ziki kibndly helped me fix.

However, I still have a problem with forums not being marked read. When someone makes a new post, the forum, thread and post remain marked unread unless I scroll to the bottom and click 'mark all forums read'.

No, I have the same problem, too.
It IS marked read but you have to go from the thread to the subforum and then to the main forum. Then it is gonna be marked read.

For example, let's say you are viewing this thread because there are new posts on it. If you want it to be marked as read, you have to scroll up and click "vBulletin Integration" and after you do this, it will be marked as read when you are viewing the index.

Don't know how to fix it. Tried turning some AJAX functions off, but that didn't help.
I thought it's how vB works but maybe it's because of the mod.

Edit: just checked. This happens on this forum, too. So maybe it's how VB works.

Hmm, real strange. Maybe there's a setting in VB that needs editing. I have to say though, I have never seen this on any other forum. On most other forums I use, including some that are VB, it is marked read as soon as you have opened it, even from the last post button on index.

Thanks for your reply, at least it reassures me that I'm not the only one, which means I haven't somehow screwed something up. Maybe there is something in the mod that needs looking at.

Edit: You're spot on! If I fillow the breadcrumb right back to the index, it gets marked as read. Surely this must be a bug? I can't see any reason why it would be coded like that.

If it is working that way on vb.com also, then it sounds like it is either supposed to work that way or it is a bug. Have you reported it as a bug?
