Pay to Register

I would like a mod where they have a OPTION to pay a low monthly fee to access certain areas of the forum.

This option must be inside the register area, perhaps after they hit register and takes them to a certain page?

Or any other ideas??

I've custom built mods like this for sites but since it gets pretty tricky (you have to decide when payments come into play, how to handle members that don't pay, what emails to send, groups to put them in, etc...) I don't see anyone releasing a single common mod that would do this tomorrow.

That said you could use the existing sign up process with some edits to the templates to talk about payment options. Then once someone registers redirect them to the subscriptions page and keep them in a locked down group that just sees a big "You're registration is not complete, please pay to access the site...." message until they do so.

Couldn't you just use the Paid Subscriptions future in the Admin CP?

I just want it simple,

1) Person registering sees a check box to sign up for $/per month, they check it.

2) After clicking submit to register all their info, then it also opens up a page to paypal for subscribing monthly.

3) They pay, then I send them a email asking them their username and I will switch them into that usergroup.

Can this be done?

Yes it certainly can however it's not a native feature.

What you could do is add a custom userfield during registration to show the checkbox and if they click yes or no show a message directing them to pay on all pages until such time as they pay. It's not as clean but it would work.

If you wanted to do it smoothly you would need an external hack. I'm not aware of any hacks that do this as you've described it or anything close but it's completely possible.

failing that, you could do it this way................
1. Make a page with your paypal code
2. Setup a 'Subscriber' usergroup
3. Alter the forum settings to your needs
