Compatibility Issues
 

I'm interested in purchasing on Vb, but I hear a lot of users whos mods/plugins have failed because they are no longer compatible with the latest version of Vb. Even if for example v3.5.1 works, v3.5.2 will no longer support their plugin/mod.

Who is it to say that the mod author will be there to release the next update?

If not, the core functionality of your website may come to a halt.

What is one to do when this happens? Rollback if that is even possible? Learn to code? Pay someone to code?

It would be great if there was another way to install mods that would not rely on the version of the forum software. At least not until complete new builds have been release e.g. v3.x.x - 4.x.x.

I think most authors of modification will make their work upwards compatible if possible. But as you are talking about future releases of which the specifications ar not known at the time the modification was released, there is no way to be sure.

If you already have a modification installed, I dont think you lose it. I didnt when I went from 3.7.4 to 3.8.0

Looking around the forums at certain mods that interest me, compatibility issues seem to pop up from time to time if the mod is too embedded into Vb and relies on a update in order to keep itself compatible.
