My host sucks!

I am ticked at my host. Last week, my databases were wiped out, now all my files are. Can you cancel a hosting and pick another without harming the site?

GSeybold 01-08-2009 08:36 PM

Ah of course you can. Just make sure they or you know how to transfer the data. I've switched a few times, didn't loss any data but lost forum pictures.

I hope you find someone you like and I hope things get better for you .

I would not cancel the current hosting until you have all the files and database moved to the new hosting just in case something was left behind.

find a host that offer a refund or a monthly payment without restriction... they are not rare, they are just more serious. the ones without refund are usually cheap hosting without serious service.

then you move and test your site...

then you cancel your actual deal...

1. There is a forum where you can discuss hosting
2. Try Amazon they have a good 'refund policy'
3. Isn't this part of the series: 'My Boss sucks!', 'My wife sucks!', 'My Government sucks!' :D

too much people suck anyway, isn't it a porn site?

As lynne advised. before you do cancel backup everything before you do anything. You should have a backup already (I used to backup on a weekly basis, then it turned to a monthly chore now it's whenever I can be bothered which is never).

Ensure you have a replacement host in place then contact this host and cancel. You don't want to be left with a cancelled account and unable to retrieve vital files, databases you may want that are active on this host.

I've done quite a few forum transfers so far.
I'd suggest you follow these steps:
  1. Move the files.
  2. Back-up the database.
  3. Restore the database on the new webhost to test it out.
  4. If succeeded, shut down the live board and redo step 2 and 3.
  5. Move the domain name.
  6. Cancel old webhosting account.
  7. Write as many bad reviews of them as you can... bad reviews MATTER !
