move vbulletin from root to website/forum folder

Hi,
Could someone please explain the correct way to move vbulletin forum without being penalized by google?

my site is currently set up like this

www.example.com

I want to move the forums to

www.example.com/forum

Setup a .htaccess in your root that does a 301 redirect for all the threads and forums to example.com/forum

Then move your forum
