The Bible, Quran, Jesus and Mohammed thread.

Ok, don't know if this is ok to post here but thought it would be an interesting thread and I hope to learn something as well. If this thread is allowed, I'm sure it will generate some rip roaring debate-hopefully all nice , devoid of emotion and well thought out.

I've been trying to teach myself the religions of the world devoid of any government or media propaganda and zealotries of my government and others.

My daughter asked me to open one of my Christmas gifts and it was a package with a copy of the Quran and some how to understand (read) the Quran guides. Pretty cool I think.

I was just very briefly thumbing through, and I mean briefy, and noticed a few similarities to the Christain Bible. I had scantly known about this previously, but really did understand just how much similarities there are.

I can't wait to read on and understand my Muslim brothers and sisters a bit more.

religious books like the bible or the quran are written by fans, they are biased... i never consider biased content to be the truth... fans are blind, they hear no reason either...

give me a book written by your enemy, i will read it and have a good fun comparing... :)

btw, any religion have the same goal: believe in yourself at first... the rest is just sharing.

and when i say "believe in yourself at first"... i remember Jesus, who said he had a path to the paradise... HE had it... he believed in himself... he knew he had faith in the great lord... nobody ever told him to believe in something, he knew it ....

same for any religious leader... they believe in themselves before trying to convince others.

A book written by an enemy isn't biased? I fail to see that logic. So you'd read the republican version of the democratic party, or vice versa? :-) If it happened, then it's true, it is an epistemological issue after that.

To answer the question posed up front. The Christian Bible is a collection of 66 books written by at least 40 authors over a 1600 year period with two distinct parts, the OT and the NT. Christianity and Judaism had no knowledge of Islam, for they were full worldview systems centuries before Islam.

The Qur'an (Koran) is the written record of the memorized recitations of the followers of Mohamed, exclusively after his statements made during his life. It was recorded in the 630's and standardized over the next twenty years. Because the Qur'an was written after Christianity came into existance, it of course takes into account the pre-existant systems.

I've got both and they are dramatically different systems.

religion? nah...

although it seems truth we use as another excuse to kill each other...

actually i think that a lot of people in the world are using religion as a reason to fight. in the origin, there was no religion but guys were always fighting -- for a female or a territory, etc... now they want the same, but for different reason, some cast told them they needed a reason to fight -- so they told "god" needed them to fight... good reason?
