About downloads

A simple question:

If I put a large or large files for people to download on my server, how much server resources it will use besides the bandwith?

For example, three or four files with 1 GB each?

Depends on how they're downloading the file? Is it processed through a script? Is it a direct download? Are users going to use a "download accelerator"?
