if I...

My host is just about to go down, as I cannot afford to re-purchase it at the moment. I blew all of my money on myself and my girlfriend.

It'll end on like Christmas.

So, if I uploaded all vBulletin Files, including a Style. When I make template changes and stuff, if my host is about to run out, can I download all the files, and upload them to my friends host with them all being the same edits? Everything stays the same. (Like all FTP files, and the style .xml)

I'm not looking to keep all users and threads/posts, just the template/style updates.

The files is only part of it - you will need the database as well. You can download the files, but without the database, all you'll have are errors. Your templates and styles are located in the database, so regardless if you want your users/threads/posts - you won't be able to use one without the other. The only other option is to do a fresh install and install everything again manually (in that case you'll just need your files) - but you won't have all the updates and changes you've made - you'll have to re-do them.

Also, keep in mind, with changing hosts, you'll also change paths too. Your /old/path/to/your/forums will not be the same as your /new/path/to/your/forums

Hmm, thanks.

I'll just wait for my friend to come on, and I'll be using his host.

I've done this a few times myself. make sure all images and attachments go to the file system first so your database remains small.

Download the entire "forums" folder or what ever you have it named, download it with ftp. do a database backup in the admincp.

on your friends server, park your domain there as a subdomain (public_html/the forum folder). upload the file system (forums) folder to a sub directory (public_html/the forums folder) create a database with the same database name as yours and the same userid and password. upload your database backup into mysql. go into your includes.php and edit the url to the forum.

now point your domain to NS1.yourfriendsserver.com and NS2.yourfriendsserver.com. those are the nameservers.

after this, your forum should work as it always has and users will not notice it moved.

if you want the url to your forum to read www. yoursite.com instead of www. yoursite.com/forums then in the domain manager, have the subdomain point to your forum root folder. public_html/yourforumfolder.

I'm actually just uploading everything to my friends host, thanks though :)

Great, if you experience any issues that you need help with, I have pretty much mastered moving forums from server to server
