MySQL Packet Size

When ever I edit php.ini and up my packet size, it still says 'MySQL Packet Size 32.00 MB ' in the admin cp am I doing something wrong?

Did you restart apache after changing the php.ini file? Also, mysql variables are changed in the my.cnf file.
