site domain...

Hey, back in January, I purchased a domain: thinkteen.co.uk, becuase thinkteen.org, thinkteen.com and thinkteen.net were already registered.

Now since thinkteen.com decided to begin to server pornographic content (at the time of registration/purchase of .co.uk, the domain was parked) my rankings, traffic etc seems to be going downhill, rather fast...

People remember thinkteen.co.uk as thinkteen.com so that really doesn't help - even one of the project financers thought it was thinkteen.com (funny that...) but anyway, any idea on what I should do?

Jump as fast as you can... you must be able to rebuilt yourself if you want to be on this business ;)

I'd switch right over to a new domain, immediately.
A friend of mine had the same problem as you, but he didn't switch and his site failed miserably after a few months of inactivity. I even made mistakes typing in the URL since I was so used to typing in .COMs instead of .ORGs or .NETs.

Ty, there's only one problem... legal docs already say TT, and they cba effectively to change it, so we need to fork out again :|

You can offer some money for .com domain to the owner, but I think it would be cheaper to switch your domain name as others suggested here.
When you grow bigger, it would be a much more painful and complicated process.

Whats going on at the .com version has no bearing on your rankings or why your site is dropping? If that would effect your rankings, don't you think everyone would register different versions of everyone else's domain names to do the same thing?

Moving your site/domain will do more harm then good. Your best bet is to find out why your site is dropping rather than changing everything, then having the same problem once Google realizes you've moved.

FRDS,
This is not just a ranking issue (you may be right here that it may not be affected this way). That's more like site spoofing issue here which can lead to more worse things and affect the business on higher level.

Ranking has to be fixed too, of course. But domain issue is another thing and should be handled as well.

Yes I am right, and yes your right its not just a ranking issue. However, changing his domain name and location isn't going to solve anything really. He'll still lose all his rankings for the switch, all his traffic that does know .co.uk will be confused for a while probably. But continuing to operate a domain name that has a porn .com version sucks pretty bad too.

Either way, both solutions will have some major drawbacks, its just picking the lesser of two evils and my guess would be the one thats easier on the pocketbooks ;)
