Few Things that I need to know...

Hello guys,

Firstly, I have been lurking around vbulletin.org and also vbulletin.com to find the Birthday greeting modification which sends an e-mail to the users who has a birthday today. So far, no luck. I found one by CyB i guess, but its a thread opening modification. Please let me know if this is already built in VB or is there any mods. My forum is VB 3.7.4 and I need this mod really badly.

Secondly, I wanted to know whether its posible to get my members to enter their birthday if they haven't done so from before. I remember in a website (theadminzone.com), it made its members enter certain profile fields once it detected that he/she hadn't filled that up. I want the birth date to be filled if a member hasn't done so already.

Lastly, I want your input on whether I should buy VBSEO and install it. Most of the big automotive websites has good SEO Systems and mine could just need it. So, what do you think. Is VBSEO worth the 149 bucks? If so, I will get on board with them right away.

My website: WheelsBD.com
Username: WheelsBD
Password: wheelsbd

That's for those who want to lurk around the whole website. Btw, you can login from the homepage, the gallery or the forum. Its all integrated.:)

1. I'm pretty sure the email user on their birthday is a standard feature.

2. Not sure

3. Depends, you can easily SEO you vBulletin yourself, it wont be as extensive with the URL rewrite options, but it'll be just as effective. SEO is about quality content and back links from related sites. more so than rewritting URL's and you can block alot of duplicate content with a robots.txt file. vBSEO unfourtently no matter how good, won't ever create your content, or get you back links automatically.

1. It's turned on by default to send emails to members with birth date entered. To turn off: AdminCP > Scheduled Tasks > Scheduled Task Manager > Untick task "Birthdays"

2. AdminCP > vBulletin Options > User Profile Options > Require Date of Birth

I'm almost certain that this is a default option within vBulletin.

If you enable to COPPA System, users are required to enter their birthday prior to registering for the forums.

You can also require birthdays upon registration by vBulletin Options -> User Profile Options -> Require Date of Birth. This will also force users to enter a valid birthdate when editing their profile with an empty birthdate.

EDIT: Doh! ReCom beat me to it :P

on #3 I strongly suggest checking out vBSEO
sure, you can do a majority of the basic things vbseo does with existing hacks and about 2 hours of your time (if you are good and quick) or you can install vbseo and have all of that and more setup within 15 mins.
Don't forget about the vbulletin upgrades, vbseo will be here for a long time and upgrades and the new updates are fabulous and very easy to preform.
You'll find many out there that just plain out hate vbseo and do everything they can do distort the fact, for the real answers you should ask on the vbseo forums and make the judgment yourself :)

I don't start a forum without vbseo, and I don't suggest a forum to my friends or clients without it as well ;)
It's a small price to pay for assurance in the fact that your forum is as optimized as possible.
