Proper name of a tiny logo?

I generally use the firefox browser.

Up in the address bar to the left of a site's url is a space where a tiny blank piece of paper with its upper right had corner dog-eared/crimped appears for most sites. Sometimes, as is the case with this site, I see a small (presumably customized) icon to the left of the url. Here it appears to be the vB logo. They're all about the size of smilies. When I bookmark a site, either the tiny little default blank page logo appears or a custom tiny little logo appears. The customized little icons make it really easy for me to spot the few favorite sites I visit. Presumably they make it easier for others to readily spot a favorite site in their bookmarks too.

What is the proper name for that tiny logo that appears in the address bar please?

There's also a nifty tutorial article on how to do your own.

Thank you very much ReCom. I didn't find that information searching for tiny + icon or little + icon.
Quote:

A favicon (short for favorites icon), also known as a website icon, shortcut icon, url icon, or bookmark icon is an icon associated with a particular website or webpage. A web designer can create such an icon and install it into a website (or webpage) by several means, and most graphical web browsers will then make use of it. Browsers that provide favicon support typically display a page's favicon in the browser's URL bar and next to the page's name in a list of bookmarks. Browsers that support a tabbed document interface typically show a page's favicon next to the page's title. The Microsoft Windows Shell uses favicons to represent "Internet shortcuts" to web pages.
editing to add- thank you very much spank! That may be helpful someday.

Oops, just tried to click on your link on how to do one and it's not valid. Would you please try to post the link again spank?

I think I just found a thread that contains the link to the how to if anyone is interested-

Here's another thread that discusses adding favicons-

And this really helped me understand what was going on-
