How to limit attachement downloads ?

Hi,

I have two kind of attachements in threads. One of them is .txt extension which includes the download links of the file, and other is one is .dlc extension which also includes the download links but encrypted.

We have two different kind of members. One is "paid members" and other one is "member".

What i want to do is, paid members will be able to download the .txt attachements but normal members will be able to download only .dlc attacments.

Is that possible to limit download of the attachements like that ?

Thanks in advance
Regards

Go to your admin cp > attachments > attachment permissions > select txt for members and Can use extension > No.

Thanks for your help Lynne but i beleive thats not the right option due to it limits the upload only. Even you choose "No" for "Can use extension", members can still download .txt attachments.

Wow, you are right. I've never had a need to use that before but thought it worked differently.

I think you'd have to write a plugin to get the attachment extension and if it's .txt then don't allow users in a certain usergroup to have access to it (or something like that).

Plugin ? :)

The only thing i can do with plugins is importing them through admin control panel. :)

Anyway thanks a lot for your advice Lynne.

If any other friend have an idea about how to solve this problem, i will appreciate it a lot if he/she share it with me. Otherwise i will have to open 2 different categories with same content but with different attachments. So paid members will see the category with .txt attachments but all other members will see the category with .dlc extention attachments.

Thanks in advance...

Have you looked at the Limit Attachment Downloads mod?

Does that do what you need?

Thanks,
James
