posting modification

I posted this on vbulletin dot com, but i got negative answer from them

Hello, i just wanted to know that is there a way where you set the permission for users to always write something in post instead of posting just Smilyes....

because in my board there are allot of users who just put smilyes in their post, and i dun like that, i want them to write along something with smilyes...
so would make a product like this... where users are not allwoed to just post smilyes. or just provide us a code where this can be prohibited.

Thanks

Have you tried setting this - vboptions > message posting and interface options > Maximum Images Per Post

Quote:

Maximum Images Per Post
When a new post is submitted or edited vBulletin will check the number of images and smilies in the text and reject it if the number is greater than the value specified here.

Set the value to 0 to disable this function.

You can't stop them from just posting smilies. You can only limit the number of smilies they post.

couldn't you set the minimum characters to something higher? I may be wrong, but if your smiley is  and you minimum characters is 10, will it still post?

Try that

if i set them high number, then user will inssert more thn 1 smileys to reach the max character limit:)

i just wanted to know, is it possible to make any hack/mod to disable smileys by itself...

If you did then users would just post a smiley and then a row of periods or something similar. Your not going to force users to post something useful to the topics at hand. All this would do is force them to post even more useless text along with the smiley.

TRUE, but the thing is i hate smileys all by itself, even a word "Thanks" would be gooood with it.........

The Thank You Mod might help, or if you make your smilies less appealing in some way...decrease the number available or hide them within the editor so members have to click the smilie icon to open the window?? If they aren't easily visible, that could curl the problem a bit.

how would thank you mod help me ?
