How to stop spam?

My board has been getting bombarded by spam, Yesterday we had around 30,000 spam posts on it which took me all day to clear off

Anyone got any good tips / add ons for preventing spam?

Thanks!

Install Stop the Registration Bots.

Of course there are other options here and in vBulletin itself that you could implement.

There's also been a few changes with vb recently as well as suggestions made over on vb.com. Feel free to check em out

I realise this post is kind of old, however nothing suggested really worked for me so I thought that I would share how I eventually managed to stop spam.

Basically I installed the Keyword weight based spam detector plugin for vBulletin and spam has been a thing of the past :)

I have posted up a more detailed writeup here about the problem I was having and how this plugin managed to solve it. http://mattyonline.com/2010/06/05/an...powered-forum/

I hope this is of help to people :)

I have a decently sized/active forum and cured my spam problems, so I'll throw in my 2c:
- I don't even use vBulletin's "Spam Management" functionality.
- I use NoSpam! with two questions that cycle.
- I also use the Auto-Moderate Evading Banned Members mod which is downright amazing. It makes a new thread in private moderator-only subforum when someone registers on an IP that matches any IP on file for anyone on the ban list (or if they share a cookie). In the thread, it displays the registrant and the list of banned usernames that share the IP allowing for moderators to discuss what should be done about it.
- My registration also uses ReCaptcha, which I'm pretty sure I had to specific somewhere in the options before. Maybe it's default nowadays.

Bots can't get past the ReCaptcha + NoSpam! questions, and repeat human offenders get silently placed in moderation queue while my moderators get alerted. Works great.
