dealing with trouble makers

I have this site (currently phpbb3) where I have had daily troubles with individuals signing up with multiple accounts and then posting illegal things, threats of violence, disclosing other people's personal information including minors and people that are members of the site as well as people that aren't etc. Even individuals that signup as different accounts then have conversations with themselves in an effort to validate things they are trying to convince people of. I have spent hundreds of hours over the years dealing with this and tried many programming and other solutions. Also several volunteer moderators who have spent untold hours doing what they can.

So what does vbulletin offer to help deal with this type of trouble?

you should be able to IP ban them. it might take a few if they have multiple IPs. and there is always miserable user hack..LOL..love it..

there are a few spam hacks and a miserable user hack that is real fun with individuals like your describing. :p

I've done the IP banning but unfortunately it is of limited use. If you block an AOL IP then you end up blocking good users too. And I have a lot of geographically concentrated users that use the same dynamic AOL IP pools.

I will check out the miserable user hack.
