Moderator permissions: Can move threads, change prefix, merge, delete as spam, stick,

By default it is possible to set moderator permission to:
'Can manage threads: Yes/No'
This includes thread moving, merging, prefixing, deleting threads as spam and much more.

Most of these actions can be undone by an admin, except merging threads. Mass merging threads can destroy whole forums, so this is something to be careful about. So not everyone wants to give this functionality to their moderators or junior moderators.

This is why a hack is needed to split up 'can manage threads' permissions, so that it becomes possible to set whether a moderator can:
- Move threads
- Merge threads
- Prefix threads
- delete threads as spam
- stick threads
- unstick threads

i agree totally.

The moderator permissions are no where near flexible enough.

To add to your idea:

I would love vbulletin to have it so:

moderator group can be selected to moderatoe just one or several forums using tickbox rather than creating new usergroups for every moderator who uses manages different sectors.

Add function in usergroup manager so I can select:

Can moderate this forum (super moderator) *but not all forums, just this subforum or group selectable by tickboxes or dropdown)

Can move threads (other user *all except admin*)

Can delete threads? (other user *all except admin*)

Can merge threads? (other user *all except admin*)

and so on.

So that the moderators permissions can be set on a subforum basis, so they can manage their own section fully but not break or meddle with any other sections...

Moderators doesn't need to be in separate usergroups. You give them permissions on the Forum Manager screen > add moderator and then set up all their permissions for that forum on the next screen.

yes but, "manage threads" include different actions.
"merge action", if a moderator merge what he don't have to, can't be undone!

can be a partial solution to hide "merge option" from the template for certain usergroups.

That was exactly my point.

The account of one of my junior mods was hacked once. The junior mod account could manage threads. The hacker merged all threads. There was no way to undo this. There was no backup. That was the end of the forum.

any update to this?

satlazone 12-19-2009 08:55 AM

I want it.

I totally agree, someone should add a mod for this. Or vB should add this option by default. I want my mods to be able to close threads, etc. But not to merge them.

is this a feature of vb4 or have they missed the boat again?
