Deleting IP addresses

Is it possible to wipe out everyone's IP addresses on the forum? I am looking to transfer ownership of my forum, but don't want some of my posters' IP to be known by the new ownership. Can I do it without a massive amount of work?

I don't think it can be done, anyway, when your members post their IP will be known to the new admin.

Plus you'd be doing the new admin no favors if he can't verify Ips etc.. to check multiple accounts etc..

This is a bit of an unusal request I must say

Yep, is a bit weird. We started as sort of a watchdog site, and I'd rather not be forced to trust the new owner to protect the old posters who contributed to the site in the past. More than a few would lose their jobs if it was known who was behind those posts.

But the question is do you trust your new owner not to go giving out ip addresses and other bits of privilaged informationwithout the members concent ?? Not sure if your in the UK but we have the data proctection Act with fines upto ?50,000 and 5 Years in prison for the worst offenders.

By using an IP Address you will not be able to pinpoint the exact "Living address" of each member and their Host or ISP can't and won't give anyone peoples addresses from those IP Addresses without a Court Order, again this comes under the data protection Act.

I really wouldn't worry too much, Can anyone else shed a bit of light on this mater??

Good Luck ;)

[sql]
UPDATE `database_forum`.`PREFIX_user` SET `ipaddress` = '111.1111.111.111' WHERE `vb3_user`
[/sql]

I dont have a test forum to test it with, so make sure you backup your database before changing anything.
