Question about amount of MOds

I know having more mods makes it harder to upgrade to the next VB, and can slow your Server down, but I'm curious as to how many mods you guys have on your Forums/VB?

I have about 20 right now (uninstalling a few) and from what I hear, thats ALOT.

How many is too many? (IYO)

It's hard to put a number on it. There are some very simple mods that don't add queries or many conditions or anything like that and therefore really have no affect on the server. Then there are some very complicated mods with lots of added queries and conditions and they do have an impact on your server performance.

That being said, I probably have about 25. (I think there is another thread about this same topic.)

Oh sorry, I didn't know where to look to find it, seeing as it's not really a 'feature' question - just a general question.

Just wanted some input on how many is to many, or some things to look out for / watch when downloading Mods.

if it's better placed in the Lounge, I wont be butt hurt if you move it :P

Right now, I have 4-5 installed. And as I see, it's not slowing my forums down, but yes you should take some off.

I would be careful though, what you add. Some mods can take a lot of space.

Another thing to remember about removing mods is that the vbulletin uninstall system doesn't get rid of the files and some mod devs do not code in proper DB uninstalls.

So after you trash a mod get rid of the files and also check the DB if the mod uses it.

Is there anyway I can check in an easy / orderly fashion? I'm not code/php friendly so I don't know what I'm looking for.

having more then 10 is alot.

Would it be better to have things coded in, not just a Mod/Hack?

I have 47 listed in my Installed Mods. A few of those are styles and 3.6 dupes. But like Lynne said, most of these don't actually do anything except in certain circumstances, so they add no load.

IMHO (of course), any less and you're cheating your users.

The more you have the more it somewhat slows down server...
