Help, under attack
 

Hi all,

My wifes site seems to be under attack, can anyone please help me.

We seem to be getting lots of new members everyday, but they are spams apparently, some are even able to post their stuff on the site (including porn).

Im really new at this, as its just a poetry forum i did for my wife, and now were panicing and seem to be fighting a losing battle.

IF THERE ARE ANY HEROES OUT THERE WITH A FEW MINS AND KNOWLEDGE ON DEALING WITH THIS THEN PLEEAAASSSEEEE LET ME KNOW.....

please search for the new threads here at the Org, there has been a big push for spammers lately it seems

use captcha, or some of the other spam mods

How would i add something like captcha?

i have to warn ya, im useless at this stuff lol

AdminCP > vBulletin Options > User Registration Options > Allow New User Registrations > No

Then kill the accounts from the Spammers
Block their IPs
Clean
Install the Mods recommend... 'STOP PANICING' :D

p.s. btw, none porn site has complaint lately of this spammers :confused:

I run two kid forums and noticed the same activity on one, then several days later on the other.

I used capcha already, but apparently this "bot" that creates the accounts for the operator can get past it. I decided to try re-captcha, and that stopped them dead. I also was using vB's Akismet anti-spam, and it saved me from the spammers traumatizing many young members.

I highly reccomend them both.

Just one question...?

IOGAMES mentioned that i should now ban their iP adresses, does anyone have the easy steps for doing this?

i have a massive list of emails you should consider banning to help combat these spammers, seems to be these are the most common i have found signing up, i am slowly finding les and less of them now as i continue to add the emails in,

you might find these match with some of the spammers you are getting and might be worth adding to your user banning options, il post them for you and add these as they might stop some of your spammers signing up under these emails,
i guess if you allow people to sign up under gmail then you could remove that from this list, but im finding im getting more spammers from gmail than i am from hotmail,
