Is the "Join our mailing list" on the main page at http://www.vbulletin.com (upper right corner) a hack or is it a java/perl/script mod?

I'm looking for something like this to send an automated message to our mail-list server. Another one for unsubscribing would also be great.

If it's a hack in vBB, I'll buy it right now. :)

Otherwise, I'll have to solicit the services of a programmer or a link to borrow this code from someone else. My programming skills aren't that developed yet.

[Answer]It appears as if it was custom coded by John (vB Developer). It isn't a hack, but I'm sure someone could easily code something like that - or there are probably dozens of similar canned scripts at http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/

you can add any mail script to your site and easily add the sign up/unsubscribe HTML code to whatever page on your forum you want. you can put it in the header, the footer of be creative with it and put it anywhere else you like...
