Custom VB page with custom PHP?

As the title says. I need it so it still has the default header and footer, though!

Store all the output from your PHP into a variable, and use that variable in your custom template.

So, I'd define that variable in the PHP file, right? And I'd use that same variable and put it in the template? Would VBulletin really accept that?
