Maintaining a User Directory
 

I am unsure if this is easy to do or difficult, or if it's even possible.

On my forum we have a thread that we use as a directory (list) of each user and their name.
Users copy and paste the latest version of the list into a post, and add their name in the appropriate place in accordance with alphabetical order.

The list is fairly large, and some users are (somehow) messing it up.

I would like to move the list to a php page with a form for users to fill out and have their listing added automatically to the list.

So my question is, is it possible to create a form with a few fields (e.g. Username, Real Name, Location) for users to fill out. When they hit the submit button their listing is automatically added to the list in alphabetical order?

If so, how can I do this? Any assistance or guidance is very much appreciated!

This may not be a solution, but a starting place:
Form Hack

If this hack can post a new a thread from the information filled out in the form, you might be able to tweak it to edit your original thread and add the entry on the next line.

This may prevent your members from messing it up.
