Background Colour Change - On A Sidebar

Hi,

I have a sidebar and I want to change the colour of the background of a certain column.

Is their anyway I can have one colour for one part of the column and another colour for the other.

For example:

My Welcome message in the top of the sidebar would have a blue background

and

My Advert would have a background colour of green.
