I downloaded and used this theme before it was "sold":

A link to the developer's site remains in my footer and upon visiting the site I realized it is now nothing more than a parked page. I'm going to remove the link as linking out to a parked page on every page of my website could be seen as "bad" by Google.

Just want to clarify that this is generally "acceptable" since the point of the link is to accept credit but there would be no "recipient".
