It would help to see the actual database error. When you get that screen, go to View Source and on the bottom of that page is the actual database error. Copy/Paste the whole error here.

Incidentally, google vbulletin "database error" and look at the results... a zillion of them are down as of 9/11/08 morning.

OK I was able to fix it through my web host but how did this happen? We just upgraded to 3.7.3. over the weekend and never had problems before.

Wow, and google mars made of cheese and you will discover 4,540,000 pages so obvioulsy Mars is made of cheese!

Sorry for your misfortune, but the sky is not falling!

I think you should go to vBulletin.com and ask for help there. I would put a support ticket in and send them the error notice. I think you can likely run one of the utilities they have to repair the database. If not, do you have a recent backup of the database downloaded?

If not, you should have been doing so and here is a tutorial I wrote years ago that will help you start!

A crashed table is easily fixed by doing a repair/optimize in the Admin CP or through phpMyAdmin (or any number of other ways). As for why, who knows, it's a server thing and they sometimes have a mind of their own. If you want more info on why tables crash, you could google it or do a search on both of the vb sites and see if their is a thread about it.

I'm laughing about the google thing though. Crashed tables do not signal the end of the world.

No, that's the job of the large hadron collider.

A crashed table usually means your DB went through some kind of crisis.

Sadly, he cannot do it via the ACP as its his user table thats crashed - no user table means no ACP access. :)

Extract tools.php, from the "do_not_upload" folder of the vBulletin archive you downloaded from vbulletin.com, upload this file to your /admincp/ directory. There is an option to "[Repair Tables]", you may need to run it a few times, for it to work.
