Add avatar to registration field

How do you make new members add their avatar during the registration process?

I know how to add fields, but not how to add a field that makes them add their avatar. This is very important step for my site as I run a fitness site and my members typically use a picture for their avatar image.

Any help would be so every greatful. Thank you in advance,
