Going from phpBB2 plus to latest vBulletin question

Will the latest Impex allow me to migrate my board even though its the original phpBB2 plus (based on phpBB 2.0) never been upgraded to the latest phpBB 2.0.22...

and

Im buying vBulletin so I can use the Facebook Pro style seen here https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=184016

but apparently its designed for vBulletin 3.7.0, not the latest vBulletin.
Question is if I buy vBulletin today, can I ge the 3.7.0 first, get it working with the style I want (Facebook Pro) then get the latest vBulletin and upgrade it and see if everything works?

Thanks!

clubman

I think you can choose what version to download in the member's area, but most styles for 3.7.0 work on 3.7.3 anyway.

Cool...

How about Impex? Will it bring over my 40,000 users and posts with no problems even though its an old version of phpBB (the original phpBB 2.0 plus (meaning it was modded)

I can post a screen shot of the tables in the database to see if there are any major changes

Yes impex should be able to handle your phpBB2.0 migration.

You can read more at the impex documentation: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex

Or see a complete list here: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ex_module_dump

ANother question...

Will vBulletin work with my server?

MySQL 4.0.15
PHP Version 4.3.3

I cant upgrade to the latest because phpBB 2.0 will stop working...

cheat-master30 09-05-2008 10:30 PM

Yes for PHP, you'd probably have to upgrade MYSQL 1 release as vBulletin.com says it requires MYSQL 4.0.16.

Just want to make sure before I ask my tech guy to do it.

MySQL 4.0.16
PHP Version 4.3.3

vBulletin latest version will work with this server?

yes, but unless there is a need to stay on end of life released (Ie other scripts wont run on php5/mysql5) you may want to simply upgrade to php5 and MySQL5 for optimum results from vBulletin in regards to performance

What are the system requirements for vBulletin?

Minimum Requirements: vBulletin is designed to run on every server that has PHP 4.3.3 or greater and MySQL 4.0.16 or greater installed.

It is recommended to use PHP 4.4.2 or 5.1.2, or later and MySQL 5.0.19 or later.

The software has been successfully installed on several different flavours of UNIX, as well as Windows™ 98/NT/2000/XP, and the Mac

Note: We recommend you contact your hosting provider to verify that they have the correct versions of PHP and MySQL installed. If you administrate your own server, PHP and MySQL are available for free download from php.net and mysql.com.

Just to make things clear. Yes, it would be possible to migrate to vBulletin.
However this does mean some data will be lost since you’re running phpbb plus. Also it could mean you’d have to drowngrade first from phpbb plus to phpbb (which is simply not fun to do).

Please contact the people at vbulletin.com first, before making swift decisions on your upgrade.
