How to make the show signature checkbox not auto-check

We didn't seem to have this problem as much before the upgrade, but after we upgraded to 3.7.3, our users are complaining about the "Show Signature" checkbox automatically checking everytime they quick-reply (which we don't want). We removed the $checked line from the template, but I believe the javascript/AJAX still checks the box.

Anyway to change this behavior?
