IRC client that is easy on resources?

I've been using nonamescript for years on my desktop PC and I have 0 issues with it. However on my laptop it's eating my battery too quickly..for some reason (logging maybe?) it likes to stay at around 40% cpu usage at all times.

I need something that is more laptop friendly for when I'm away from the grid. I lug my laptop around at school all day and like to be able to go from 8am-1pm without having to re-charge it.

Any suggestions? If you have any tips/tricks for extending battery life please let me know. My main OS is Windows XP SP3 btw although I sometimes boot into FreeBSD or Gentoo Linux.

I tend to use mIRC. Its old but tried and true. Uses 6 megabytes of RAM on my machine and I have never seen it rise above 1% CPU usage.

I was hoping for something not based on mIRC but I'll go back to it and see if it fixes the problem. Honestly I think there may be something else going on but I've not found the time to look into yet.

I'm going to format this thing soon and get a second battery but again haven't found the time. I set it up like my desktop PCs and now I'm finding out it wasn't such a good idea...plus I've cluttered my HDD as I finally got broadband at home. ;)

Have you tried looking into using the Oirc client brad?

Here's a list of Irc clients pending the above client doesn't suit your needs.

I have to completely agree with Wayne Luke, mIRC is the client to have. It has never raised any issues on my computer. It is also user-friendly, which not alot of clients are.

snak use 1.2Mb or RAM but it's for Mac only... i do not know anything else than mIRC that could compete that on Windows!

I use irssi on linux, linkinus on mac and mirc on the pc.
RAM and HDD and performance are no longer an issue these days. So I honestly don't bother about it.
