Email change forcing admins to moderate users

I've only found a mention of this issue in an old thread from 2002 so forgive me if there is something more recent discussing this issue and how to deal with it.

The issue is as follows:

1) Registered user changes his email address
2) User is sent email verification to confirm email change
3) When user confirms change by clicking on link in email User is placed back in "Awaiting Moderation" group

Two problems arise from this:
- the admin has to release the user from the mod queue
- if the member was in one of our paid membership groups there is no information indicating this (or remembered by vB) when the admin "re-approves" the user so he goes back into the wrong group. We don't know he was in the paid membership group until he later notices it and complains.

I haven't found a way to configure these problems away using standard vB admin and configuration options so I was wondering if anyone has addressed these issues through a mod. I'm still running vb 3.6.1.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide

This doesn't sound like the way standard vbulletin works. I know users change their emails on my site and everything stays the same for them. Do you have some modification installed that performs these actions?

I don't have anything that should interfere with standard vB functions....at least that I know of. Are there specific hooks that might be suspect that I should look for?

I don't know which hooks to look for. I'd just go looking at the modifications. Any sort of modification that has to do with changing a users usergroup would be suspect to me. Create a test account, put him in the usergroup that your users are in, add a secondary usergroup to it, then try changing your email. See what happens. If you got put into a moderated group, undo the damage. Now, turn off one of your suspect modifications and then go change your email. See what happens. etc, etc, etc
