How to link to the latest page in a thread

Im trying to link to the latest page in a thread and dont know exactly how to do it.

I can add 999 to the end of the url string like this (knowing that the page hasnt reach 999 pages):

showthread.php?t=1383&page=999

and it takes me to the latest page but im sure thats not the right way and it seems like it takes some time to bring up that page.
