currently active users vs visitors who have visited forum

i'm confused how this works.. i've had alot of people posting but the most users ever online hasn't changed for a loong time. is something wrong with my vbulletin?

Currently active users is the users that are currently logged in. Most users ever online is the most users that have been logged in at the same time.

I had the same question a while back. Though RLShare is right. Currently active users are all users logged in at once. Most users ever online is logged during the same day.
