Username Color/Icon on a Per User Basis
 

So here's my dilemma. I am trying to give my user's different colored names or icons in front of their names on an individual basis (instead of by usergroup). I was able to accomplish this in a postbit relatively easily by using conditionals and and custom profile fields, but I would also like it to show up pretty much anywhere the username shows up. I attempted to use conditionals for the usergroup title code, but that only seems to work on some templates.

Is there a hook or some easier way of doing this?
