Banning users instantly seems a bit extreme, what if the user posts it in error? For example if they post "Hancock" and they get instantly suspended. They don't have a way of refuting the ban.

Personally, I feel that you should never use a computer system to do your moderation for you, the one thing computers don't have is discretion. Admins & Moderators can read the comments in the context they were posted in and make a judgement, a computer just sees the word and goes, whack! The user may have said it by accident or maybe they were provoked.

Use the "Censor Words" option to prevent the words from being displayed.

I know this probably wasn't much help but just thought I would say.

All the bans would be temp anyway and it should be exact match.

I cant see how someone saying the n word could be used out of context or an error typing.

If they quoted a news story or site for example. ;)

I'm sorry for bumping this ancient thread but I thought I'd let you guys know that the function fetch_censored_text can be modified into a nice autoban function, and since vbulletin allows you to censor only exact matches like if you censor dog, it wont censor dogma, or in a real life case if you say the british word snigger it won't censor it for being similar to "nigger", which would be perfect for ridding most of the previously mentioned problems. And then it highlights the offending text!

Oh yeah and I run the function strip_quotes() beforehand so if you quote a banworthy post you dont get banned!

Though I need to rid the problem of it banning you when you preview a post...
