F%#@ Got Locked Out of My Own Forum!!!!

Officially frustrated with this crap. My forum is www.sparql.com ... just in the process of configuring it, and forgot that I changed my admin username, and stupid thing locked me out... what's worse, I can't find the table that stores lockouts... It's not "infractions", apparently (why would it be? that would make sense).

Can someone provide some help? How do I manually unlock my admin account?

Nevermind, I figured it out... brilliant DB architecture, guys... use the "session" table to lock users out. rotfl

To be fair, I'm mad at the devs for sloppy database design, and for implementing ridiculous security policies on a forum...

Changed my password to a previous one, and it wouldn't let me... how silly is that? This isn't a bank account, it's a freakin discussion forum!!! Some of the features in vB make me think they're there just so the devs can say they put them in. IMO, waste of processing power, and of no use to anyone.

Oh, and I installed my first add-on (through the admin CP) and it broke the forum. Now I have to reinstall from scratch.

I'm' really hating vB. It's not a developer-friendly technology at all...

PM on it's way.

Also, set yourself as an undeleteable user in the config.php file and you won't be able to change that stuff on accident.

Did you read the manual? Help! I've broken my board!

Considering also, that you are an administrator and thus have access to data which may be confidential. I personally don't think its a waste.

This feature is standard on other applications too. You should be able to turn it off when editing the usergroup (or in vBulletin Options, I can't remember exactly) but you shouldn't really be using an old password anyway.

You might want to make a test forum as well, for future addons to test them out before posting on the live board ;)

That's what I did for months and months when I first started, until I got the hang of things :)

If you understood the meaning of "infractions" in vBulletin, then it would explain itself. I suggest having a look at the manual.

There is nothing wrong in using the "session" table to lock out users, it is a session after all...

Over the session/infractions table? See above.

Have you even considered that there is a way to turn it off? What you're suggesting is that the devs tailor vBulletin for YOU?

Blame the developer of that add-on? You can't really blame the devs here. Or maybe you could've had a look at the manual? It would've told you to add a line in config.php which would disable all plugins from running...

It's actually quite developer-friendly, but I'm not going to even start.

If you can not change back to a previous password, then this is because of the setting for "Password History " in your usergroup. You have all the freedom to disable this using the standard vBulletin features.
