Is there any way that I can use a user profile field in notices?

In my case I have a field for Real Name and want to use that instead of the username in some notices.

Okay, so posting at 2am isn't good for the spelling :o)

The heading should be "User Profile Field in Notices....

As an update, I am happy to replace one of the other fields that are usable within the notices with the custom field, if that makes it easier.

Any help would be appreciated.
