Moving an individual forum into a new site (domain)?

I have a forum category (and the forums within it) that I want to split off from the main site and give its own dedicated community at a separate domain. I realize this requires another vBulletin license (etc) and that is no problem. What I would like to know is how involved is it to move all of the content (about 100k posts) into the new forum?
To take it one step further, it would be nice to also copy the active members (or all who posted in there) accounts over to the new site, though not critical.

I suppose I could copy my entire site over and then go to deleting everything besides this forum and these members but that would be a big PITA I am guessing since we have over 1,000 forums, 150k+ members and 3.7M posts total..

I'd appreciate anyone's input on this. The most important thing is moving that category's forum content to the new site rather than just start over..

Thanks,
David

Creating a full copy and cleanup would still be the best way to do this.

How long might that take on a large forum? ;) Aproximates, of course.

3.7M posts
150k users

Maybe 150k posts need to remain. Pruning the users is probably the larger question, or would you just keep the users?

Thanks,
David

If you do it, weeks probably. ;)

What you prune is up to you and what you want to do with the copy forum.

Oh, is that all? lol

it would defiantly take some time to prune all those users

But I would do what Marco suggested.. importing the whole forum, and removing everything you don't want. ;)

Wouldn't you be able to close the forum you have now. Then make a backup. Install the new vBulletin on the new domain. Then restore the database there. Then open the new forums (as it would be closed because you closed before getting database) and delete all the other forums, sub forums, and posts that you don't want on the new forum.

Then open the old forum. Then delete the category the other forum as. That way. You will have two forums. No duplicate posts. The member database will be the same on each site. However you can delete them if you wish.

EDIT: Didn't realise someone already suggested it.

Any feedback on how this went Flyboy73? I'm interested in doing this too and I'd love to know what your experience was...
