public_html/forum/ folder

Can someone please give me a run down and or some tutorials on what to do step by step and understanding what ur doing step by step in uploading mods to the public_html/forum/ folder

Seems like every mod I want to use says

BUt doesn't say which files to upload. and how and where

And i get ones that say this

Also everyone says use a "FTP" where can i get a free one and how do i use it. I'm very new and im tired of asking for help in the mod threads and getting very little responses for supported mods!

I would really like to know what I'm doing and understand it! ANY ANY ANY help from everyone would be greatly appreciated!

I guess everyone NEW is suppose to know how to do this automatic. Please! Don't post stupid things in my thread please while I'm trying to get help and learn things. Thanks!
