Just edit the SHOWTHREAD template. I would say that their modifications to the showthread template are custom and would not be able to be found.

Well templates are made of HTML & CSS (as well as <if> conditions) you just have to compare the output with the template and just play till you get it right.

Trial and error is probably the best way to get it done.
