Retrieving Old Threads / Posts Etc from?

Was wondering how possible it would be for a four year old forum to retreive threads from say something like Google Cache or some such similar source? Non manually of course! As even geting your head around how to do such a thing manually is nigh on impossible me thinks.

(Bearing in mind the now VBulletin forum started of on a different software - SMF in the case I have in mind)

How would you go about it? has anyone else thought along these lines and if so is there something that could be used to do this?

If you have the database for your site, look at this: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex

ImpEx is a complete Import engine for your old forum into your new forum...

Nay there is not a database of the older versions of site in question that I presently know how to access - I have discovered an intersting thing RE Google Cache that if I cannot find a way to do a 301/404 error page thing with am thinking there must be a way to selectively restore certain aspects of older versions of a forum either on present software or previous softwares.

Automating this would be difficult. You would probably spend more time creating the script than just doing it manually.

So automating that would be difficult dismounted - that's obviously so as you say and previously mentioned "somewhat" found to be "difficult"

Seem's like something others might like or would therfore like to tackle within their own realm of expertise is it not? me thinks quite probable!

I was just stating my opinion - to believe it or not is your choice. If you want someone to create a modification - request for it...
