Default permissions problem

Hi All,

Would really appreciate a prompt reply.

I'm trying to control access to forums via usergroups, i.e. if a user is a member of a particular group they are able to view and everyone else is denied. This works fine, but every time I create a new group they are granted access to the forum by default. Seems crazy but I can't find anywhere to make it so that a new usergroup is not given access to said forum..

Any help?

Steve

If you click on Deny All when you do Forum Permissions, then any new usergroups you create should be set to Deny for that forum. If you manually went through and denied every usergroup to that forum, then you are correct in that when you create a new usergroup, it will be allowed. (The weird thing is, which I wish was not this way, the new usergroup doesn't show up in RED in the forum list, but the little circle next to the group will be an open circle, not a closed dot, and the open circle means they can't see the forum.)

Thank you for your reply Lynne, but I have followed your instructions and I'm getting the closed dot with full permissions. I have definitely used deny all..

When you go to create a new usergroup, are you selecting something under "Create Usergroup Based off of Usergroup" or "Create Forum Permissions Based off of Usergroup:" (those are both at the top of the usergroup page)?

I have now, and it does work if I create off the registered users group, i.e it keeps the permissions. This isn't set by default though and could cause some problems in the long run..

You aren't the first person to make that comment. And actually, they used to have the second drop-down, Create Forum Permissions Based off of Usergroup, at the bottom of the page and everyone would overlook it. So, at least it's been moved to be more visible now.
