Adjust the line wrapping in post bit?

Hi all,

I would like to have an automatic line wrapping at 72 characters in the postbit, for better readability. How can I achieve this?

Thanks, Tobias

vboptions > thread display options > number of characters before wrapping text

Thanks, I had seen this option before but it actually doesn't specify a regular line wrap, it rather breaks up long words:

If you want posts to automatically insert spaces into long words to make them wrap after a certain number of characters, set the number of characters in the box above.

Hmmm, you are right. You can set a width to the div tags (<div style="width:72px">). That would be in your postbit, or postbit_legacy depending, template.

Thanks! That works in principle, it's 72 pixels though. Any way to set this in characters instead?

You might be able to use em instead.

Do you really want to go and set the width for your users though? For instance, I have a 24" screen and I like my browser window to be wide and you are trying to set the width for me instead of allowing me to set the width.

24" screen? I only got a 22" widescreen. :(

Well, the width of our forum is fixed anyway. Plus, really long lines become awkward to read for many people, science says that a line break after around 8cm results in the most comfortable reading experience.

If your forum width is fixed, the it should be fixing the width of your thread also, no?

(And yeah, boofo, I have a 24" iMac :) )

Yes, but I actually don't want the lines to use up the whole width :)
