category icon for 3.7

I've find somethink for vb 3.5 and also for 3.6 but i couldnt install them . e.g. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=138783

Has any one got this hack for vb 3.7.0 ?

SirFlash 05-14-2008 09:43 PM

binevi, according to vbulletin staff, vbulletin 3.7.0 already has this feature implemented, apparently you just need to "create user image_prefix now and create five pictures with the name prefixforum_old.gif and etc".

I haven't done this myself yet and i find that explanation difficult to understand, but apparently that's what you need to do. I'm not really satisfied with this solution personally, since i don't like creating new user ID's unnecessarily (since all new users have numbers attached to them in the URL), and i find the old Category Icons hack to be ideal since you can edit the icon directly in the Forums area, which is just downright intuitive. In any case, i'll try following their instructions and let you know if i succeed.

They should do somethng easier to change icons :( that could take ages :D anyway good luck and let me know if you succeed :)

Alright, ignore my last post, i was obviously confused by the instructions in that thread.

What you need to do is go to your Admin CP -> Forum Manager, click on the forum that you would like to add your own category icons to, and beside the "Prefix for Forum Status Images" you enter the filenames to the category icons you want to use, and make sure you have more than one category icon, to show when new posts have been made, if the forum is locked, etc... if you're lazy and just want to use 1 static icon that never changes than just copy the image four more times and add the other filenames to it.

vbulletin gives these instructions in case i'm not clear:

"Prefix for Forum Status Images
Forum Status images are usually shown alongside the forum in a forum listings to indicate the read status.

This prefix must only contain alphanumerical characters, though the following are also allowed - _ / ., a folder name is also acceptable to be placed within the status icon directory.

The following images are currently in use for status icons, you will need to create images with the specified prefix to match.

* forum_link.gif
* forum_new.gif
* forum_new_lock.gif
* forum_old.gif
* forum_old_lock.gif"

upload your category icons to the /images/statusicon/ directory.

Does anyone have a link to a step by step guide on how to do this. I have tried over and over to set a single image for one forum icon and failed every time.

This is what I am doing:

Forum Manager> Staff Room> Edit Forum.

In the field next to this:

Prefix for Forum Status Images (This prefix will be used on status image filenames for a forum, it can only contain A-Z, 0-9, -, _, . and /)

I am putting the following:

/staffroom/forum_link.gif,forum_new.gif,forum_new_lock.gif,fo rum_old.gif,forum_old_lock.gif

I am putting the /staffroom/ as that is where the images are located. /staffroom is inside the statusicon for my theme and the default theme.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong. This has really puzzled me, maybe I am missing something.

Thank you for any help given.

EDIT: I have noticed on various forums using custom icons for each forum that they are located in all different names for folders and dont even follow the

* forum_link.gif
* forum_new.gif
* forum_new_lock.gif
* forum_old.gif
* forum_old_lock.gif"

naming rule suggested above.

I am running VB 3.7.2 also.

The prefix should be something like "staffroom_". Then name your images:
Code:

staffroom_forum_link.gif
staffroom_forum_new.gif
staffroom_forum_new_lock.gif
staffroom_forum_old.gif
staffroom_forum_old_lock.gif

And place them in the statusicon folder.

am i supposed to add the *? do I create a new folder? what exactly should i name my 5 icons, where do i upload them and what exactly should i enter in that field?
