Question

Can someone please tell me why some people use the same username to sign-up to multiple forums, yet rarely, if ever, make any posts on them?

If someone could also elaborate as to how these people have become aware of all the different forums available (i.e. They generally sign-up to these multiple forums in a relatively short space of time), it would be muchly appreciated .

I guess that this subject is discussed elsewhere in this forum, but bugger me if I can find it :D.

Cheers,

BUZ.

People probably just do that to get results on google.

Not quite sure what you mean, but I tend to use the same username on most forums I sign up to. Sometimes I just sign up so I can download X attachment or something, If I'm searching for some thing specific.

Is there anyway of confirming that this may be the reason, and if so, how does it get them better results on Google if the username is the only link? i.e. When Google searching some of these usernames, the only results seem to be the forums they have joined.........not any 'master' website.

There was an example in my original post that has disappeared.....here are two others

*** Examples removed again as they are not needed for your question and most likely are just spam ***

Thanks for your input to date people...........Muchly appreciated

Hey................I understand that I am new to this forum, however I am asking a legitimate question that in no way whatsoever has introduced anything even remotely akin to spam onto this forum. It couldn't have hurt you Marco to check the links before deleting them!

Kinneas may have had a better opportunity to understand the question I was asking had he been afforded the opportunity to check a clarifying example for himself!

BTW..........I did originally post this thread in the correct forum!

As the people I am querying about join multiple vBulletin forums, I anticipated the answers/disscussion would lend themselves to talking about vBulletin!

If you know the answer to my question Marco (which I suspect you do), it wouldn't hurt you to share it with me (even by PM or E-Mail)............ A prospective vBulletin customer!

Thank you.

humans do not register to a site for the software that drive it... but because of the content.

i am registered to a ton of sites, a lot of times i do not post...

i usually register on them when i am required to do so if i find it interesting.. does not mean i want to have my name on it...

you will not gain a single thing by asking this question to others... ask yourself why you do it, you will have an answer.

True, a lot of people join lots of sites legitimately and never end up posting for various reasons ranging from sometimes just lurking to forgetting the forum...

But I have had people actually register at various sites I go to just because of the forum software, or who give the forum software as part of the reason why they joined.

Are you suggesting that the usernames I am enquiring about are actioned by a computer programme (which would explain the dissonance of said usernames)? <edit: I went to your christian forum Nexia and checked the member list, particularly the 216 usernames that begin with 'X'. Seems like you too know the answer to my question!>

What kind of paradoxical parable is that?

Why ask myself why I do a thing that I know I don't?!?? Should I petition my query to a computer?

Are you talking about a linear answer Nexia?

Somehow I don't think I'm in Kansas anymore .

simple answer to OP's question:
Coz they can ;)

for substantial answers, you'd have to ask an internet behaviorist, or an online shrink :D
